Help Us Free The Sun!
Black Rock Solar is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization focused on speeding the adoption of renewable energy through installation, education, advocacy, and job training. Our work ensures that money saved stays within the community, where it can benefit those who need it most. We’re changing the way people view solar power — as part of the right now rather than the maybe someday.
In June 2013 we achieved a milestone worth celebrating. We’ve installed 3,000,000 watts of solar power since our first array was constructed in the Black Rock Desert in 2007. More than 15,000 solar panels on Nevada schools, hospitals, tribal buildings, and nonprofit organizations are providing clean electricity as an alternative to coal-fired power plants, dams, or nuclear facilities. We also organize educational field trips, train tribal members in energy efficiency, and give small grants and technical help to community groups and artists.
Your donation helps us extend our reach, giving extra help to organizations that wouldn't otherwise be able to afford to go solar. Every dollar you give touches a life.
Education highlights include:
- BRS has begun a new solar school visit program where we bring a 940-watt solar trailer to the school to demonstrate the power of solar energy.
- BRS is a leader in GREENevada - a coalition of Northern Nevada organizations and agencies providing a collaborative approach to school sustainability through comprehensive environmental education and leadership.
Matching grant opportunity!
Black Rock Solar actively reaches out to our community’s educators and children, promoting enthusiasm for sustainable energy solutions. Through hands-on field trips to our arrays, this popular curriculum lets students use, observe, analyze, and learn about solar energy and the science and technology used to harness it.
BRS has conducted seven field trips for 361 children in 2013 (that is more than double the total field trips conducted in 2012 and teacher demand continues to grow!)
Black Rock Solar recently won a $2,000 Partnership Grant for this program, but we need your support to raise another $2,000 by Dec. 31 in order to receive this matching-grant money.
Every dollar you donate will be matched by the well-known and respected Community Foundation of Western Nevada and will help children learn about renewable energy.
By donating to Black Rock Solar, you give us the chance to continue supporting good work in the communities we love.
